In early August, at the 500 kV Nyingchi substation, which is 28 kilometers away from Nyingchi City, the operation and maintenance personnel strengthened the inspection of the substation. At 21:00 on August 10, Solang Qujia, deputy commander of Linzhi Substation, carried out infrared temperature measurement on the main transformer and high-resistance equipment in the station, and compared the data with historical data to find out whether there was abnormal heat.

Nyingchi Substation is an important hub of the Tibet-China Power Interconnection Project, mainly responsible for supplying power to the Lalin Railway and Nyingchi City, as well as delivering power from Tibet to the outside world.

"When I was a child, we used a hydroelectric generator in our house, and the power was very low, only enough for lighting. When I was in high school, a small hydroelectric power station was built in the village, but I could only watch TV when the voltage was stable. Tibet is vast and sparsely populated, and lack of electricity used to be a structural problem. The local power structure is dominated by hydropower, which is greatly affected by the season. Only by networking with the large power grid can the electricity problem here be fundamentally solved.

On December 9, 2011, the Qinghai-Tibet Electric Power Interconnection Project was put into operation. The Tibet Power Grid ended the history of isolated grid operation and was interconnected with the national grid for the first time. The project is one of the 23 key projects in the western development of my country, and it is also the first "electric power road" standing on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Today, the whole region of Tibet has formed a new pattern with 500 kV as the backbone grid and coordinated development of power grids at all levels.
